In person. Yes there is! On November 2, 2024, Glen Ellyn residents have a unique opportunity to participate in shaping the future of their community. The Civic Betterment Committee (CBC) will be hosting its Town Hall Meeting, a vital event where local candidates for various positions will share their visions, answer questions, and engage with the public. This town hall is an essential part of the civic process, giving voters the chance to hear directly from candidates and make informed decisions while casting their votes for CBC's slate of candidates to run in the spring Consolidated Election.

You’ll come away with an understanding of how social media and digital economics shape today's information environment, how partisan actors exploit our all-too-human vulnerability to misinformation, and how those economic and psychological forces have shaped the coverage of this Presidential campaign.

The League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn and Wheaton will host a Community meeting on Mis/Disinformation Awareness, featuring Barbara Laimins, Co-Chair of the Mis/Disinformation Task Force of the League of Women Voters of Illinois. Barbara’s discussion will focus on the spread of mis/disinformation, its impact on voters' ability to discern fact from falsehood, and the importance of making informed decisions as we approach the upcoming Presidential election.

Your ballot will include choices for President, U.S. House of Representatives, State of Illinois Representative, State’s Attorney, Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Auditor, County Coroner, County Recorder, and County Board Member (District 4). You will also be able to vote for Commissioner of the Forest Preserve (D4), as well as three Appellate Court Justices (3rd District). Finally, there is a Forest Preserve referendum on the ballot, AND three State of Illinois advisory questions. Let’s do our research together!

Wesley St. in Wheaton.

Virtual Only. Does the First Amendment allow U.S. government officials to intervene and prevent the spread of misinformation and disinformation on social media platforms? The U.S. Supreme Court recently had an opportunity to rule on this question. Instead, they declined to issue decisions in two cases, punting them back to officials in Texas and Florida.
