Let’s learn more about a threat to our environment and our health and how we are combatting it! Plan to join us on Thursday, April 17 for “Plastic Pollution: Turning the Tide.” This meeting is set for 6:45 pm at SCARCE, 800 S. Rohlwing Rd., Unit D, in Addison. (Near the intersection of North Ave. and Rte. 53.)
Plastic pollution has become one of our most urgent environmental concerns, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them. An AP article last fall cited a new study determining that 57 million tons of plastic pollution is produced every year. The resulting residue and litter spreads from the deepest seas to the highest mountaintops to the inside of people’s bodies. Natural forces like wind, wave action and sunlight break plastic down into smaller and smaller bits, and these microplastics can then escape into municipal drinking water and even into the air we breathe.
Our very own Jacquelyn Casazza (president of Go Green Glen Ellyn) will speak to us about this important issue, as well as SCARCE’s Director Kay McKeen. Please come, and let interested friends and neighbors know they’re welcome to attend as well.
