Defend Democracy Drop-In

February’s Defend Democracy Drop-in’s Topic: Preparation for the upcoming LWV Federal Judiciary Study Consensus Meeting on Saturday, March 15th, 9:30-11:30am at the Glen Ellyn Public Library.

During the 2024 LWVGE Program Planning meeting, our League, along with many Leagues across the country, told LWVUS that a position on the federal judiciary was needed. Without a position, League cannot act on any issues related to federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States. We were heard!

At the LWVUS 2024 Convention, delegates voted to proceed with a study on the federal judiciary. The study will be completed in time for a position to be announced at the LWVUS 2025 Council in June. All League chapters are encouraged to provide input into the development of that position by participating in a consensus meeting.

In order to prepare for our consensus meeting on March 15th, LWVGE will devote our February and March Defend Democracy Drop-In meetings to reviewing and discussing materials prepared by LWVUS.

How you can get Involved:

  1. Review the materials on LWVUS Federal Judiciary Resource page LWVUS Federal Judiciary Resources Page and check it frequently for additional material.

  2. Come to the LWVGE’s Defend Democracy meeting on February 11, 2025 and March 11, 2025 from 11am to 12pm at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, when LWVGE member Sandra Alexander will lead a discussion and review of LWVUS study materials, preparing you for LWVGE’s Consensus meeting.

  3. Mark your calendar and attend LWVGE’s Consensus meeting on Saturday, March 15, 2025 9:30-11:30am at the Glen Elyn Public Library. This is where you can provide input into the LWVUS position on the federal judiciary. In order for this meeting to have a successful and effective outcome, we need as many LWVGE members to attend as possible.

Contact Bernie Laszewski at bernielazzz@gmail.com if you have any questions or if you would like even more involvement with this grassroots process.

Please bring a phone, tablet or laptop with you so that we can educate ourselves about this issue, and then be in a position to provide our input on this critical topic. This is Democracy in Action, looking forward to seeing you there!
