Members Only: Consensus Meeting Federal Judiciary

Save the date for the official LWVGE consensus meeting to craft our input to LWVUS regarding the Federal Judiciary Study. Make your voice heard!

Location: Glen Ellyn Public Library N/S meeting rooms.

At the LWVUS 2024 Convention, delegates voted to proceed with a study on the federal judiciary. The study will be completed in time for a position to be announced at the LWVUS 2025 Council in June. All League chapters are encouraged to provide input into the development of that position by participating in a consensus meeting.

The goal of this study is: To develop a LWV position on the Federal Judiciary as an essential component of US democracy. The Study includes, but is not limited to, addressing concerns and clarifying judicial accountability, transparency, independence, and ethics. The scope addresses the US Supreme Court as well as the other Article III federal courts.

In order to prepare for our consensus meeting on March 15th, LWVGE will devote our February and March Defend Democracy Drop-In meetings to reviewing and discussing materials prepared by LWVUS.

How you can get Involved:

  1. Review the materials on LWVUS Federal Judiciary Resource page LWVUS Federal Judiciary Resources Page and check it frequently for additional material.

  2. Come to the LWVGE’s Defend Democracy meeting on February 11, 2025 and March 11, 2025 from 11am to 12pm at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, when LWVGE member Sandra Alexander will lead a discussion and review of LWVUS study materials, preparing you for LWVGE’s Consensus meeting.

  3. Mark your calendar and attend LWVGE’s Consensus meeting on Saturday, March 15, 2025 9:30-11:30am at the Glen Elyn Public Library. This is where you can provide input into the LWVUS position on the federal judiciary. In order for this meeting to have a successful and effective outcome, we need as many LWVGE members to attend as possible.
