League VOTE House Kick Off!

Members and Guests Only Event. A late summer tradition returns soon: League of Women Voters, Glen Ellyn’s annual Boathouse Kick-Off event. Please join the fun on Thursday, August 15 to reconnect, reenergize, and renew your commitment to LWVGE!

We’ll gather at the Boathouse on Lake Ellyn, turned in to the Votehouse, as we gather to launch our 2024-25 season of League. New members are invited to a special orientation beginning at 6:30 pm. Membership Chair Michelle Peterson will guide the new member session. And the main event starts at 7 pm for all members. This annual kick-off is a great chance to see old friends and make new ones as we celebrate together our shared passion for democracy!

Our honored speaker for the evening is Dr. Sania Irwin, recently elected as Vice President of League of Women Voters for the United States for the 2024-2026 biennium. Irwin has led as the interim president of the LWVUS, and serves as chair of the Board of Trustees of the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF). She joined our Glen Ellyn League in 2018, and spearheaded the nonpartisan Get Out The Vote (GOTV) effort the same year, which positively impacted voter participation in low turnout precincts by 5 percentage points. An active and respected civic leader, Irwin has organized forums and town-halls tackling topics such as money in politics, freedom of the press, health care, education, immigration, etc., that inform voters and inspire participation.

We will also hear from our LWVGE co-presidents, Barbara Kwiatkowsky and Judy Kinn about the year ahead. And what a year it will be, heading into a presidential election. Deb Hornell and Gail Bernstein will talk about their role leading Voter Services this year and how you can help.

Plenty of information about other opportunities to support League efforts will be offered as well on Boathouse/Votehouse night. You won’t want to miss it.

Refreshments and light snacks will be available. And the annual gift basket raffle will close out the evening.
